Visual Artists of Richmond (VAR) is an all-volunteer advocacy group with more than 90 visual artist members living in or working in Richmond. Our mission is to create opportunities to celebrate and promote our work, share resources, and support each other’s art practices. We organize meetings in which to network, learn of new opportunities and discuss topics of relevance to visual artists. Our fiscal sponsor is Intersection for The Arts. Membership is free, and established by creating a profile in our Directory.

In our group there is cultural and ethnic diversity, self-taught artists, people without a studio and people who live in Richmond but have a studio elsewhere. We welcome young and old, artists with high and low socioeconomic levels and emergent as well as established working artists. VAR members participate in our annual Richmond Open Studios (Sept 6-7) and Made in Richmond exhibition preview show, get their events promoted in our social media and websites, receive a monthly newsletter with upcoming opportunities, and attend our artist gatherings.
