Paula Slater created the Don Salvio Pacheco Monument in 2018 as a commission from the Concord Historical Society in conjunction with the City of Concord, commemorating the city’s 150th anniversary. The work is a 7-foot-high over-life-size bronze portrait statue that depicts Don Salvio Pacheco, one of the three founders of Concord, California, in period clothing.

The sculpture stands upon a 3-foot-high granite base at the entrance to Todos Santos Plaza in downtown Concord. It portrays Pacheco with a scroll, representing his original land grant for the Rancho Monte del Diablo, in his left hand, and his right hand resting upon a map marking his land’s boundary atop an ornate Spanish relief decorated pedestal. The work was cast by the Artworks Foundry in Berkeley. The artist is renowned for sculpting in high detail incluing intricate elements like the watch chain, buttonhole threads, and veins on the back of his hand.
