I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember, starting with crafts in Girl Scouts and eventually finding my way to crochet and jewelry, which I’ve been doing for more than 20 years. In 2024, I took my first pottery class at the Richmond Art Center and promptly fell in love with clay.

These days, I work primarily in ceramics, with crochet and jewelry still very much in the mix. My pottery is mostly functional ware like mugs, bowls, plates, and other pieces made to be used and enjoyed, with plenty of cats, dinosaurs, celestial designs, and other playful details finding their way onto the surface. My crochet and jewelry works range from hats, scarves, and bags to necklaces, stitch markers, and beaded or crocheted earrings.

After many years of thinking of crafting as “just” a hobby, I’ve finally embraced the fact that I’m a maker at heart, and that making things is one of my favorite ways to spend my time.

Artist Statement

Please provide a brief description of your creative process, motivations, and inspirations:

I’m a multidisciplinary maker working primarily in ceramics, crochet, and jewelry. Across all three, I’m drawn to creating things that are functional, detailed, playful, and a little bit whimsical. I love symmetry and repeating patterns, fine details, and imagery that makes me happy:  cats, dinosaurs, celestial motifs, and whatever other shiny things happen to catch my attention.

Experimentation is a big part of my creative process. I’m constantly curious about new techniques and materials, and I get much more excited about asking “what happens if I try this?” than making the same thing over and over. That curiosity means my work can vary quite a bit from piece to piece, but the same tendencies keep showing up: careful details, patterns and repetition, and a desire to make ordinary objects a little more fun.

More than anything, I make because I love the process of turning an idea into something tangible. There’s something deeply satisfying about starting with clay, yarn, or beads and ending up with an object that didn’t exist before that can then become part of someone’s everyday life.
