Bill DiMichele’s career was marked by his versatility as an Abstract Painter, Sculptor, Visual Poet, Graffiti Artist, Poet, Writer, Musician, and Songwriter. He performed as a musician and songwriter with groups including Batang Frisco, Outpatients, and Billy Dim. His creative work was published in many fine arts, visual poetry, and poetry magazines.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, DiMichele attended Bucknell University, graduating with a degree in Fine Arts (1974) before relocating to San Francisco. His professional work also included a significant background in publishing. He served as the co-editor of SCORE magazine from 1982–1990 and was the editor of TIP OF THE KNIFE from 2009–2019.

Artist Statement
Please provide a brief description of your creative process, motivations, and inspirations:
Bill DiMichele’s work was inspired by abstract expressionist/surrealistic painting to realistic sketching, from medieval lettering to spray painting. One of his favorite mediums was collage; ripping and cutting, using shape shards, color fragments, letter pieces and a multitude of arcane processes he learned at a graphics company for which he worked in the 1980s. He created small sculptures from one piece of 9” x 12” purple construction paper (now showing in Truck magazine), folding and tearing to bend space. He enjoyed mixing accident with control, freeing and using the mind at the same time.
