As far as visual arts, I took up photography when I moved to California, back in 1980, enthralled by the landscapes here. I grew up in the swamps of deep South Louisiana. I developed an eye for composition, sometimes quirky or abstract. I took up painting as a Covid hobby, quickly steering towards plein air, and recently moving to do more abstract. I am relatively going by my instincts. My heroes are Diebenkorn, Thiebaud, Wolf Kahn, and Franz Kline, but I do not try to paint like them (ok, if you’re painting in black and off white, it would be difficult NOT to look like Franz Kline). I can only produce what comes out of me.
