NIAD Art Center is a progressive art studio and gallery founded in 1982 in downtown Richmond, CA. NIAD supports more than 75 artists with disabilities in expressing their identities as artists – making and exhibiting art, connecting with community, and earning an income from the sale of their work.

Frequently remarkable, unconventional, and engaging, artwork by NIAD artists gets love from the contemporary art world on a global scale. NIAD artists have shown work at SFMOMA, OMCA, Christie’s San Francisco, the Whitney Biennial, and are represented by galleries across the country. Each work created at NIAD is an original piece of art that tells an individual story from the perspective of an artist with disabilities.

NIAD works at the intersection of the arts community and disability community. Most of the artists working at NIAD are low-income and/or BIPOC. NIAD artists and staff are tireless advocates for neurodiversity, disability justice, and a more accessible art world.
